У 1627 році польський король Сигізмунд Ваза дозволив містечку проводити торги і ярмарки. У 1639 році магнати Миколай-Станіслав та Войцех Контські на високому лівому березі Циганки між двома її притоками розпочали зведення регулярного замку. Форпост мав контролювати важливий шлях, що вів до Дністра. Збудований з місцевого вапняку і пісковику, замок був прямокутний в плані з чотирма баштами, що виступали за лінію мурів. Збережені вежі мають по три яруси. В перших двох ярусах розташовані великі прямокутні бійниці (по одній на кожну грань і кожний ярус). В третьому ярусі під самим дахом – маленькі стрільниці, що за своєю формою нагадують перевернутий отвір для ключа. Непогано зберігся підвальний ярус, що знаходиться нижче рівня землі.
