Насамперед, термін повинен бути точним, тобто мати строго певне
значення, яке може бути розкрито шляхом логічного визначення, що
встановлює місце позначеного терміном поняття в системі понять даної
галузі науки або техніки. Якщо якась деталь оптичного приладу
іменується «видошукач», то цей термін повинен позначати тільки цю
деталь, що виконує певні функції, і ніякі інші частини даного приладу або
якого-небудь іншого пристрою. Через складну еволюцію української мови
у ній широко розвинена синонімія, в тому числі і лексична: одне і те ж
поняття можна виразити різними словами.
