Географічне положення України
Площа України становить 233 088 квадратних миль (603 700 кв. км). Вона трохи більша за Францію. Україна в основному являє собою величезну рівнину, яка не має природних меж, за винятком Карпатських гір на південному заході і Чорного моря на півдні. Ріка Дніпро з численними притоками об’єднує центральну частину України економічно, поєднуючи країни Балтійського узбережжя з Чорним і Середземним морями. Гирло ріки Дунай забезпечує українській торгівлі вихід на Балкани, в Австрію та Німеччину.
Центральна частина й південь України в основному степи з родючим чорноземом, що особливо підходить для вирощування зернових культур. На сході знаходиться важливий промисловий район відомий як Великий Донбас, або Донецький кам’яновугільний басейн, де є великі поклади корисних копалин.
Північ і захід України – це горбкуваті, засаджені лісом землі з численними мальовничими гірськими курортами. Тут знаходяться два гірські пасма: на західній межі України – Карпати, де дуже популярні зимові види спорту, і Кримський хребет, що розділяє кримський півострів. Крим – це улюблене місце не тільки українських туристів, але й громадян інших держав колишнього Радянського Союзу.
