Коли між скелями "Чотири брати" та "Голова Чацького" збудували греблю, під водою лишилися печери, прориті в скелі Чацького. Згідно з припущенням учених, тут могло бути житло первісної людини. В Житомирі досліджено близько 15 підземних галерей. Але робота ця навряд чи буде закінчена, вважають дослідники.

Минуле Житомира склалося так, що стародавніх храмів у нас немає. Найстарішим можна вважати католицький Собор Святої Софії на Замковій Горі (1746 р.). Наступний - костьол Святого Яна з Дуклі (1840 р.).
