Незважаючи на принципи неупередженості та об’єктивності, що прописані в Кодексі поведінки, людський чинник суттєво впливає на роботу СММ. Згідно декількох проведених автором інтерв’ю, від особистих поглядів спостерігача залежить тональність звітів, трактування подій у випадку їх неоднозначності та рішення щодо врахування в звітах окремих деталей. Згідно особистих спостережень, проросійські настрої в цілому притаманні не лише росіянам у складі СММ, але також спостерігачам з країн пострадянського простору. Певну особисту уперед женість до української влади можуть мати також спостерігачі в СММ з досвідом спостереження під час конфлікту на Балканах, оскільки вони переважно схильні розглядати події на Сході України з точки зору “боротьби за свободу пригноблених територій”. Разом з тим, всі ці чинники впливу в достатній мірі нейтралізуються чітко прописаними правилами роботи Місії та присутністю там працівників з проукраїнською або нейтральною позицією. Загалом, загальний настрій колективу міжнародних спостерігачів прогресував за час роботи СММ з нейтрально-настороженого до більшою мірою проукраїнського, на що сильно вплинуло отримання об’єктивної інформації про події в Україні.

Despite the principles of impartiality and objectivity, which spelled out in the code of conduct, human factor significantly affects the SMM. According to several conducted by the author of the interview from the personal views of an observer depends on the tone of the reports, interpretation of events in the case of ambiguity and decision on the inclusion in the reports of individual parts. According to personal observations, pro-Russian moods in General is characterized not only by the Russians in the composition of the SMM, but also observers from the countries of the post-Soviet space.
