Як живеться на зарплату викладача?

– Маю 5 тисяч гривень. 2012 року це було майже 500 доларів, зараз – десь 200. У мене є диплом кандидата наук. Але за нього доплачують тільки 200 гривень.

В Японії комфортно жив би, якби викладав у Хонцю. По приїзді в Київ дуже допоміг мій керівник Лідія Францівна (професор кафедри фольклористики Лідія Дунаєвська. Померла 2006 року. – Країна). І я вирішив сприяти студентам, які мріють поїхати до Японії вивчати культуру чи мову. Домовився з шістьма тамтешніми університетами про програми обміну. Кожного року 12 студентів їдуть на стажування.

Торік із візитом в Україні був прем'єр-міністр Абе-сан (Сіндзо Абе. – Країна). Він не зміг зі мною зустрітись, але з його дружиною ми спілкувалися. Для мене це була велика честь.

Чим відрізняються українські студенти від японських?

– Вони дуже працьовиті, але завжди шукають простіших шляхів. Хочуть результату якомога швидше. Японці рухаються поетапно, роблять усе за визначеним алгоритмом.

Яка у вас найбільша професійна мрія?

– Хочу писати про український фольклор. І підготувати японською підручник про українську культуру. Перекладаю "Тіні забутих предків" Михайла Коцюбинського. Дуже подобається цей твір.

Мрію відкрити кафедру українознавства на батьківщині. Торік в університеті Кобе читав перший в історії Японії курс про Україну. 29 студентів прослухали 15 уроків. Була й лекція про Майдан. Вони не знали справжньої ситуації. Я дуже конкретно це пояснив. Реакція була хороша.
